Supplies and a Contest

Picture 008
I went out today to pick up some supplies.

Picture 009

Thing is, I'm trying to finish this certain model then submit it as an entry in a gundam modeling contest. Submission of entries are on friday, saturday, and sunday. I'm trying to finish everything by friday and submit it on saturday. This will be my first time to join a gunpla contest.

Been trying my best to come up with a decent entry. I'm planning to put as much detail as possible on the kit. I even used a primer this time (1st time too) to make sure that the paint will stick well. I might post some pics of my entry when I'm done with it.

RX-78-2 ver. OYW

Here is my RX-78-2 Gundam version One Year War

Picture 012
This kit has been collecting dust in my room for over a year before I decided to build it.

This is a very impressive model. An easy build, but the legs are a bit complicated. Panel lining can be a pain in the rear though.

I didn't like the look of the blank ink used for the panel lines so I sprayed the shoulders, arms, and skirt another coat of paint. Then used a pencil instead to give the panel lines a subtle look.

This gundam looks really nice after all the painting, panel lining, and decal application. I also tried dry brushing with gray acrylic paint to give the shield and yellow parts a darker and dirtier look.

I painted the white and the red parts. I wasn't feeling the original old rose red. I don't have yellow spray paint so I just used dry brushing to get rid of the shine. That's why the yellow looks a bit too dirty.

Picture 024

Picture 015

I'm not familiar with this gundam too. But I do know that this is the 1st and original gundam, the gran' daddy of them all. I also saw Danny Choo's model so I decided to get this one together with Mk II.

Haruhi Cameo in Indie Film

I was watching TV when I saw the trailer of this upcoming independent film here in the Philippines.

I have never watched an independent film before. Based on what other people are saying, Filipino independent films are really good, and are getting better. They are becoming more appealing compared to the films which are produced by the huge film companies because of the unique approach and more "artsy" feel, compared to the commercially produced ones which are intended to earn money just because the actor in it is famous even though the story is unoriginal and downright dumb (whew!). Hollywood movies are still the most popular here, but I did notice that local indie films are getting popular with the general crowd too.

So I was trying to get an idea of what this movie is all about when I noticed someone dancing at the background near the end of the trailer.

Play the clip and look closely at 1:02 to 1:04. I guess the guy who made this film is a huge Haruhi fan as well.

MG Mk II

My 2nd MG, the RX-178 Gundam Mk II ver. 2.0

Picture 025

I decided to get this one after I saw the PG version from Danny Choo (again).

C

I really like this one, the color scheme is different from the usual gundams.

The model is very poseable. I guess this was the improvement from the 1st version.

Picture 017

Picture 021

It has a very impressive inner frame, especially the legs. Those parts were actually a bit complicated to build.

Picture 023

I don't even know which series this gundam came from. I watched Wing ang G Fighter when I was younger, then Seed/Seed Destiny. I'm trying to catch up with Double O now.

Picture 027

Picture 028

What I like about these old school gundams is their "muscular" or "stocky" built/appearance. It makes them more realistic for combat, and gives you more surface area to work with. Unlike the newer models which can be too slim, like Wing Zero.

Picture 029

Picture 026

That is why I'm a huge fan of this model even though I haven't seen him an action from the animation. Aside from trying to watch more animes to familiarize myself with the other figures, I'm also trying to get a hold of some older gundam series/movies.

Figma Mikuru

Here is the lovely Mikuru Asahina
Picture 003

She's my first Figma. I might get Haruhi and Yuki next time.

I'm a newbie when it comes to these figures. I'm still saving more money to get a PVC statue.

Figmas and Nendoriods are really fun to play with. I really like them because you can change their facial expressions and they also come with some accessories.

The priceless facial expression
.
I think that's the good thing about figmas and nendoroids (Revoltech too!), they can do something else in case you get bored with a certain pose or expression.

I'm a fresh grad and still waiting for the right job offer. By the time I'm earning my own money, I guess I can buy some PVC figures too. The thing is, I'm not familiar with 80% of the female figures being sold. I'm still a huge Gundam nut.

Who will be the fortunate one to capture Mikuru's heart?

Nendoroid Tsuruya

Tsu_A
...
Just got myself a Nendoriod Tsuruya! Now I have someone in a maid outfit. I really love the chibi versions of the Nendoroid line. That fang really kicks up the cuteness level.

I'll post her pics soon. Gotta shoot Mikuru and some gundams first.

Rei Ayanami

Here is my Fraulein Revoltech Rei Ayanami.

Picture 004B

I'm a huge gunpla fun so I never really paid attention to female figures. But after seeing some of them in other otaku blogs (most of them in Danny Choo), I also became interested in getting some of them.

Picture 022

I also lacked interest in figures because majority of the figs I saw are unfamiliar to me. I'm familiar with Evangelion and that is why I wanted FR Rei.

Picture 005
I didn't know who Haruhi was and wondered why she's so popular. I watched the series and I totally loved it. Now I can't decide if I should get her figma or nendoroid version first. I got figma Mikuru right away coz I love her =)
Picture 009

And each time I visit a hobby/specialty toy store, I noticed that I'm starting to recognize and know more figures, which means that I'm starting to like them all. I used to lust over gundams only.

Picture 017

This is starting to sound more like a confession than a figure review/shoot. So there, I'm having fun with my first two female figs. Taking their pics is really fun; makes me feel like an expert photographer. And I'm also learning by experimenting with my point-and-shoot digicam.
